BENEFITS OF INGREDIENTS
COCONUTCoconut (Cocos nucifera ) does not cause starch-related disorders that oats are known to cause, such as colic and laminitis because it contains less than 2% starch (non-structural carbohydrates). Additionally, the high protein, fiber and fat content make this an ideal food component in a horse's diet. Coconut is a healthier substitute and can replace oats. Feeds such as oats, corn, barley, soy, and molasses contain starch and sugar that may result in large fluctuations in blood sugar and result in unwanted mood or behavior changes. Coconut provides a cool trainable energy for your horse. Coconut meal is low in calcium but the rest of the ingredients in Wildfire's Remedy provides the balance of calcium. Coconut contains a variety of other minerals such as, manganese, copper, selenium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. Besides helping your horse from the inside it also benefits your horse's topline, coat, mane, tail and hooves.

TURMERIC Turmeric ( Curcuma longa), the golden spice, dates back to the Vedic culture in India nearly 4000 years. Turmeric has a long history of being used as a medicinal herb. It has been known to support the respiratory system and has been used as a natural anti-inflammatory for joint stiffness and soft tissue swelling. It helps horses maintain healthy skin and supports the immune system. To increase the bio-availability of turmeric, this spice needs a source of fat so the curcumin will directly be absorbed into the blood stream and bypass the liver. The Coconut in Wildfire's Remedy provides the fat needed.
**Coumarin is in Turmeric and is one of the prohibited substances of Regulated Equine Sports. I don't know if the amount in Wildfire's Remedy would register in a blood test but it is something to consider if you are competing. Wildfire's Remedy Competition Formula excludes Turmeric ** |
FENUGREEK |
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) has been given to horses to help them gain weight. The plant was also added to hay to improve palatability. When the ground-up seeds are soaked, a slimy, soothing mucilage is formed. This mucilage can coat and soothe an inflamed or dry gastrointestinal tract. Fenugreek seeds have been studied for their ability to protect the stomach from ulcer formation, with the results potentially being better than omeprazole. Often when the digestive tract is damaged there is bloating and gas. Fenugreek can improve digestion by reducing those symptoms. Fenugreek absorbs endotoxins and flushes them out, this is beneficial for a horse with a leaky gut or during a bacterial infection. Fenugreek can also be useful to help regulate glucose and insulin by slowing glucose absorption and improve insulin sensitivity. With its multitude of flavonoids, including quercetin and steroidal saponins, in conjunction with Turmeric, Fenugreek can be helpful for horses with arthritis that flares up in cold weather.

CHIA SEEDS |
Way before the Chia Seeds (Salvia hispanica) became an 80s fad growing on a clay sculpture, chias were a beneficial food source for the Mayan and Aztecs. These tiny seeds are packed full of nutrients. One being Omega-3's. They have been known to help boost the immune system and reduce swelling, giving horses relief from allergies and help reduce any pain or swelling. After soaking Chia seeds they acquire a jell around the seed that helps keep your horse's gut hydrated along with providing electrolytes, promoting faster recovery times. Chia seeds also optimize the digestive tract which could potentially reduce ulcers and colic. They're also ideal for horses who suffer from metabolic disorders. Chia seeds have a natural calming effect due to them being high in Magnesium, a natural way to calm a nervous horse during stressful times. As a complete source of protein, they also can build your horse's muscle and topline. Chia seeds help your horse achieve the proper body condition along with healthy skin, glossy coats, and the calcium in the chia seeds can also help strengthen bones.

ROSE HIPSRose Hips ( Rosa canina) are the richest sources of vitamin C. They also contains vitamin A, B, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, and vitamin K. Rose Hips can help fight off infections and boost immune health due to its rich vitamin content. Despite horses being able to produce their own vitamin C, there are times when a little extra can benefit them. They are an important source of vitamins especially during the winter months when vitamin-rich plants are scarce and grazing is minimal to none.

PUMPKIN SEEDSPumpkin (Curcubita Pepo) seeds provide the amino acid Arginine, which the body uses as a substrate for Nitric Oxide, the master circulatory molecule in the body Also they are an anti-parasite treatment (natural dewormer) for intestinal parasites like tapeworm. Cucurbitin is one identified active component that works through paralysis of the parasites, which allows them to be eliminated naturally. Vitamin A in pumpkin seeds is said to increase resistance to parasite larvae. It is also a digestive system ‘tonic’ that supports healthy digestion and soothes the digestive tract, an ulcer treatment in horses and aids in constipation

SESAME SEEDThe Sesame Seed (Sesamum indicum ) contains a master circulatory molecule, Nitric Oxide (NO). Its function is to increase oxygen and blood flow by dilating blood vessels and is crucial for key physiological functions other than circulation, and can act as a hormone, neurotransmitter, and intracellular messenger. It helps curb inflammation, and oxidative stress. To produce nitric oxide, the body requires the amino acid arginine. Therefore, it is recommended to feed horses foods that are high in arginine such as pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds, which are both in Wildfire's Remedy. A daily serving of Wildfire's Remedy will provide several grams of arginine from the Pumpkin and Sesame seeds. In nature, arginine does not exist without the presence of lysine, an essential amino acid. When you choose foods high in arginine, you automatically also get lysine, plus enzymes and co-enzymes that are essential for the bio-pathway to nitric oxide production. Increased circulation is important for tissue repair, as the stimulation of nitric oxide impacts cellular responses, including collagen synthesis. Increased circulation benefits athletic horses such as racehorses and older horses. It helps joint mobility and can reduce the discomfort of issues such as navicular disease

ASHWAGANDHAAshwagandha (Withania somnifera) has proven to have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-stress, immune-modulatory, antioxidant, adaptogenic, neuroprotective, and beneficial endocrinological properties. Active ingredients presented in Ashwagandha can reduce stress-induced damage, and do not influence normal body functions. Several studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects such as anti-stress/anxiety, and antidepressant effects of Ashwagandha in both humans and animals. Just like people horses can get stressed or depressed, mostly due to environmental changes. The Ashwagandha in Wildfire's Remedy can quell those moods without causing a horse to be groggy. ***Ashwagandha is one of the prohibited substances of Regulated Equine Sports .I don't know if the amount in Wildfire's Remedy would register in a blood test but it is something to consider if you are competing. Wildfire's Remedy Competition Formula excludes Ashwagandha ** |
SpirulinaSpirulina (spirulina platensis) provides energy and increase endurance. Vitamin B12, Dimethylglycine, Vitamin E and thiamine have been shown to increase the anaerobic threshold, thereby decreasing the amount of harmful lactic acid produced in the horse's muscles during and after a workout. It can help improve your horse's coat, hooves, immune system, help as a blood builder and detoxifies, and is especially good for horses who do not have access to pasture. Supports respiratory function and vasodilation (blood flow) which can improve exercise performance. Could be used as a natural alternative to corticosteroids.

JiaogulanJiaogulan ( Gynostemma pentaphyllum ) is a climbing vine given to horses for supporting circulation, respiratory health, and muscle function. Jiaogulan has medicinal properties and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to promote vitality and research has shown it has similar beneficial effect in horses. The leaves of the Jiaogulan plant contain active ingredients like Sesame Seed, which increase nitric oxide levels in the blood and stimulates blood flow. This helps enhance energy levels, deliver nutrients, oxygen, immune cells to tissues, and disposes of toxins. In horses, blood flow improved and helped tissue in the hooves, tendons, lungs, and muscles recover from illness or damage. By enhancing circulation, jiaogulan can support healthy hooves in horses that are prone to laminitis. Jiaogulan may also promote respiratory function through increased blood flow and bronchodilation. Jiaogulan and spirulina work synergistically to improve respiratory function and enhance exercise performance in equine athletes. Increasing nitric oxide levels benefits healthy joints, connective tissues, recovery from tendon and ligament injuries, and help to alleviate a stiff gait.
